Renaissance Human is the first album of Bruce Cryer, former star of The Fantasticks in New York, and accomplished writer, singer, dancer, actor, business executive, coach and mentor. After a five year career in musical theater, film and television in the 1970s, Bruce left that world to explore new business and health ideas in California, where he lived for more than 30 years. He was part of the founding team of the HeartMath Institute, and served as CEO for 11 years. A harrowing two-year journey of health crises resulted in a rebirth — a renaissance — for Bruce creatively and soon after he began to sing again, with his longtime friend and college roommate, Gary Malkin. They launched a project called What Makes Your Heart Sing in 2012 to deliver musical keynote performances to awaken inspiration in audiences around the world.

Renaissance Human is the next step in Bruce’s creative journey, a collaboration with the remarkable Isaac and Thorald Koren — the Brothers Koren — whose many claims to fame include performing as part of the group The Kin, touring with Coldplay and Pink, and producing albums for more than 50 artists.

The journey of writing these songs was Bruce’s first foray into song-writing, having previously written two books, edited more than 30 others, and being a prolific blogger and writer for years. “But song-writing is different!” Bruce discovered. The songs of Renaissance Human represent the struggles and joys of his life, a man committed to love whatever the cost, whatever the sacrifice. It is an album of joy and depth, whimsy and passion. It is an album celebrating the creative spirit that lives inside every human being.
